I don’t really know whether Sony or Imation buys from Daxon. I quote the example because I believe they are very good in the DVD process but even then they don’t make everything themselves.

Nowadays, everyone outsources, only difference is the extent. Specifically for DVD recordables, they are very flaky. One batch good the other batch not. The sputtering process, the balancing of the disk, compatibility with the drive’s firmware, the laser diode in the drive, etc.

So, I don’t think the problem you had is limited to brand but more of the lot you got. That’s why most brands have a return policy. Buying manufacturer excess stock without warranty may cheap but ….

The yields for 1st tier companies manufacturing the disk should be good. And a manufacturer once told me, “We don’t specifically manufacture B grades, and definitely not aim to manufacture defects.” It’s more like buying 4-D, you still have 1 in 10000 chance to strike 1st price.

Tour Guides, Is there any different with my DVD reader speed? This BenQ Daxon disc cannot work on my friend Compaq DVD drive too.

You might want to check to see if there is a firmware upgrade for your DVD drive. Sometimes it can help them recognize and write to newer media.

It might be a silly question but is your IBM DVD Drive is 8X or 16X? It seems from your earlier note that you are already writing the disc but no where mentioned the earlier disc type so thought to write if it is 8X then you can’t use these disc. If being using the 16X DVD Drive you can’t write to these blank ones then write the manufacturer and send them this link. I hate them the most and write a post and propagate the message to more 10 people at least.

No choice. Really can’t resist the cheap price RM26 for 100pcs BenQ Daxon 16X good grade DVD+R. But… But… In the end, can’t use them all.

Oh dear. Personally, I’ve been using Sony CDRs and Imation DVD-RWs. They never failed me. I grew wary of cheap discs after a bunch of them wouldn’t read after a couple of months of storage. Useless.

I am using Imation disc all the time. Just use BenQ this time to try out. Don’t know why BenQ good grade disc is so cheap.

Is the quality so bad meh? Have you tried it on other pc? Does it work? Well, since ur friend is working there, maybe you can return or exchange for something else!
