Microsoft System Center Operations Manager 2007 (SCOM). Do you ever hear these words? Microsoft System Center Operations Manager 2007 is new to me. After doing some research at Microsoft website, I just know that Microsoft System Center Operations Manager 2007 is the replacement for Microsoft Operations Manager 2005 (MOM). What are SCOM and MOM anyway? There are management tool for IT build by Microsoft. SCOM has more features than MOM.

Microsoft System Center Operations Manager 2007
I used MOM once when I was Information System Engineer back then. MOM is used to monitor all the servers’ activities and generate reports. And notify system administrator which is me if have any error occurs. MOM has features like Synthetic Transactions, SNMPv2 support, Reporting, Server roles, High availability, Monitoring Engine, Notifications and Connector Framework. Too bad that I did not use much of the MOM features. I just use some of them. SCOM has even more features like Service Oriented Monitoring, Model-based architecture, Monitoring Templates, WS-Management support, Client Monitoring, Audit Collection, XML Management Packs, Self-Tuning Thresholds, Consolidated Console, Role-based security, Active Directory Integration and Windows PowerShell command console. SCOM also includes all the MOM features but with improved version.
