Android HTC HD2 has AGPS support now!

Yeah… Thanks to XDA Developer, tytung. We can have AGPS feature on Android HTC HD2 now in his latest project ~ GPS Libraries for HD2 Gingerbread. It should work on Android Froyo and Gingerbread. I tested with TyphooN CyanogenMod 7 Nightly v3.3.6 which comes with tytung’s GPS lib v1.2. The result… I am getting faster GPS lock with PAPAGO! navigation. And I can even get GPS lock in my room where cannot get a lock previously. WOW!

Tytung’s GPS Libraries v1.2 for HD2 Gingerbread Features

  • Show the number of satellites before getting a location fix.
  • Show or hide the GPS icon in the status bar instantly when you start or stop a GPS app.
  • Support the leap seconds. (Thanks to arne182 for figuring it out.)
  • Modify the Accuracy (i.e. Error in meter) to be more reasonable.
  • Add AGPS interface. (Won’t see “no AGPS interface in agps_data_conn_open” in logcat now.)
  • Add the missing functions to receive the NTP, XTRA, and SUPL settings from gps.conf.
  • Add AGPS implementation including injecting AGPS data (xtra.bin) and time into the gpsOne engine.

You can give it a try on your current Android with this GPS Libraries v1.2 here. Or download TyphooN CyanogenMod 7 Nightly v3.3.6 here. Or wait for your favorite Android ROM chef to update his build…

  1. Hi there, thank you for sharing all your knowledge with us.. I really enjoy android development on this device.. I’m planning to replace my htc desire with this beast. But before I make any decision I would like to know your opinion..
    1. Do you think htc hd2 is better than htc desire? I’m planning to put nand android on it btw..
    2. After googling a lot on this device, I found that a lot of user face problem regarding screen and the digitizer.. Is it safe to assume this phone in malaysia won’t get the same problem? Have u face any hardware problem? I live in kl..
    3. With this agps fix, do u think htc hd2 has get all the android features? (I know except for 720p video recording)..

Please help me make decision.. just analyzing the risk here.. Thank you

    • Android on HTC HD2 is still not perfect like native Android phone. It is almost like native Android phone but still not. Why not upgrade to dual core phone like Samsung Galaxy S II?

      • Jaypah89… if you want to know whether HD2 is better than HTC Desire running on Android, the direct answer would be yes.

Of course, everything is not perfect. I’ve seen a lot of HD2 users over here which have not taken their devices to any repairs. It’s all wear and tear and the way you treat and use your device. Which is very subjective. You can even buy a new phone today and tomorrow you might have to replace your digitizer.. it’s your luck!

        My short advise, get it.

  2. Because no other phone has such ability to load different os.. And this phone got a lot of developer and large community

      • What a pity.. I hope the remaining developer will continue the great work.. well, Im still attracted to the phone, while waiting next year to get sgs2 when it cheaper.. So, juz in case if I really gonna get this phone, what is ur advice regarding my questions in previous post?

          1. HD2 is better than Desire for sure.
          2. Nope, I don’t have any hardware issue.
          3. So far, it can performs all the daily task that I need. Although it might not be as fast as native Android phone.
