How to root Nexus 7? 1 click method (Video)

How to root Google Nexus 7? As usual, that’s the question I asked when I got my Nexus 7. Nexus 7 is the first Google Nexus device that I own. Rooting Nexus 7 should not be hard since it is a development device from Google. Developers can’t do most of the stuffs without root access. For me, root access is a must have for Android devices. Lot of interesting stuffs like backup applications and data with Titanium Backup, remove advertisements, improves user experience with custom modification can done. Thanks to Google Nexus 7 ToolKit. Prerequisites

  • Google Nexus 7 ToolKit
  • Nexus 7 adb & fastboot drivers

Note – We need to unlock Nexus 7 bootloader in order to root it. And unlock Nexus 7 bootloader will delete everything on your Nexus 7. Do backup all your stuffs first. And make sure that Google Nexus 7 ToolKit and Nexus 7 adb & fastboot drivers are installed properly. Do refer to those guides before process to root Nexus 7.

Step by Step Guide

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Enable USB Debugging Mode.
  3. Connect USB cable to Nexus 7.
  4. At Google Nexus 7 ToolKit, select 8. 1-CLICK FOR ALL.
  5. Select No to reboot to Fastboot Mode.
  6. Select Yes – Unlock bootloader (may void warranty) with Power button.
  7. Your Nexus 7 bootloader will be unlocked.
  8. Then a fresh Android OS will be loaded.
  9. Follow on-screen instructions to setup it.
  10. Enable USB Debugging Mode again.
  11. System will start to root Nexus 7 with Superuser. And push Busybox to it. Then install CWM Touch Recovery.
  12. Remove USB cable after Android OS loaded.
  13. You should see Superuser app installed.

    – Current Toolkit v3.2.0, latest available v3.6.1
    – Current Mods Section v2.1.0, latest available v2.2.0

    How do I perform the updates?

    I get stuck at “Waiting for USB Debugging to be enabled”. I unplugged/replugged the USB cable 5-10 times and it didn’t proceed. How can I continue with the process?
