I like Samsung Android devices because they have unlocked bootloader. Same apply to Samsung Galaxy Note II. So that you can modify it with whatever you prefer like install custom kernel, ROM, theme, firmware… However, install these unofficial stuffs will void warranty ~ custom binary download will increase, current binary and system status to custom in Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Odin Download Mode. No worry, you can always restore to stock Samsung Galaxy Note 2 to recover warranty back. Reset custom binary download to No, current binary to Samsung Official and system status to Official. And Device status from Modified to Normal (Settings – About device – Status). It will be like a brand new Samsung Galaxy Note 2 like you turn on it for the very first time. How to do so? Please refer to below step by step video guide to know more…
Prerequisites
- Triangle Away
- Odin3
- Stock Firmware
Step by Step Guide
- Launch Triangle Away.
- Grant it root access if prompted.
- Download latest update if prompted.
- And following on screen instructions by pressing OK.
- Select Reset flash counter.
- Press Continue when ! DANGER ! warning prompted.
- It will boot into Triangle Away boot mode then.
- Press Volume Up to reset counter and status.
- Power off Samsung Galaxy Note 2 when Android OS loaded.
- Press and hold down Volume Down + Home + Power buttons at the same time.
- Press Volume Up button when warning prompt.
- Odin download mode will be loaded.
- Custom binary download should be No, current binary to Samsung Official and system status to Custom.
- Connect USB cable to your phone.
- At PC, extract firmware .tar (or .tar.md5) file that you downloaded to Firmware folder.
- Then bring up Odin3.
- Click on PDA.
- Select the .tar (or .tar.md5) at Firmware folder.
- Click Start then.
- Remove USB cable from Galaxy Note 2 when you see green PASS! at Odin3.
- Let the first boot installation go through.
- You might face boot loop issue on second boot (stuck at Samsung Logo).
- Press and hold Volume Up + Home + Power buttons at the same time.
- Do so until you see SGN2 Logo. Release all buttons then.
- Android system recovery will be loaded.
- Go to wipe data/factory reset with Volume Up / Down buttons.
- Select it with Power (or Home) button.
- Then select Yes — delete all user data.
- After that, select reboot system now.
- Android OS will be loaded.
- Then follow phone onscreen instructions to setup.
- Go to Settings.
- Select About device.
- Build number should be the same as the firmware that you installed.
- That’s all.
If everything goes smoothly, your Samsung Galaxy Note 2 should be loaded with stock firmware. And with custom binary download = No, current binary = Samsung Official and system status = Official in Odin mode. No worry about warranty claim now as no body knows what you did last summer.

Maybe it is United Kingdom (H3G). Not sure here too.

No issue if install other region N7100 firmware. You can reinstall another one again.
But will be big issue if install wrong model firmware. It might brick.
So i can install the uk h3g as long as its the firmware for my n7100?

Yes, you will need to reinstall CWM again.

Jelly Bean come thru yesterday OTA and I installed the update successfully (so I thought). However, wifi stop working. I tried three different routers at three different locations to confirm that the problem is my phone (SGN2), not the router. SGN2 kept trying to connect but failed. What do I need to do to recover the wifi function?

Hi David, reboot your phone then try again. If still cannot, factory reset it.

Very disappointing. Still no wifi connection after factory reset. Wifi router is working with other devices.
During the OTA download process, I did have a brief wifi disconnection but it went back up and the phone asked if I wanted to continue. I answered yes and the download was completed and installed. May it be possible that during the brief disconnection, the file was corrupted?
What can I do next?

Not sure the file was corrupted or not. Better go to Samsung service center to have it fix.

i m unrooting my phone now…i want know i create backup from cwm recovery when my phone is rooted…so can i restore my phone with cwm without unroot???

No root access is needed but CWM (not stock recovery) is a must.
Jaycee I mean if restore me phone through cwm aftar install stock firmware so its automatically root my phone or not…bcoz I created the backup when my phone is rooted…thats why I m worrying…:(

Yes I downloded the jb 4.1.2 firmware.
Now its XXDLK7 but before it was XXDLJ3
Firmware should not affect the result as long as the process is the same. I have no idea if they are same.

Hello Jayce, Thanks for the cool & illustrated guide. I tried this guide and several others, however TriangleAway doesn’t seem to get my binary counter back to 0 (No), and keeps it at 1 (Yes). Is there a limitation for it ? What could be the problem … ?! I’ve read somewhere that TA doesn’t actually work with “all” stock firmwares, can you confirm that ? Am I missing something ?!
I even tried using Kies to make “Firmware Upgrade & Initialization”, and even that didn’t work !
Is there a sure way to reset everything back to zero state? I don’t mind using hardcore methods.
Hi rewtbawt, which model of Galaxy Note 2 are you using? Triangle Away should work on all supported models no matter which firmware.
Triangle Away is the only way so far.
I am on the international GT-N7100 Android 4.1.1 JRO03C ALJ3 (region: UAE).
Using Triangle Away 2.75.
It does say under the “Reset Flash Counter” section that “On some devices this mode always shows at least 1 !” … but I was assuming that he meant some models, and I’ve seen several guides for GN2 so far successful … hence I am worried that I am missing something !
It should work on your model then. What is your status on step 13?
OK, so I have just used Kies to do the “Firmware upgrade & Initialization”, and thus restoring my stock ROM (and also stock recovery? correct me if I am wrong!).
I used Exynos Abuse 1.4 exploit to root my device again, to SU 0.99, then with gPlay updated it to 1.10. Manually installed Triangle Away 2.75, and it says binary count YES (1).
For some reason I redid the procedure of TA, but this time couldn’t wait for Android OS to fully load (just when animated Samsung logo was playing) and switched it off, then carried out the download mode, and VOILA !! Binary count is NO, current binary is Samsung official, but system status still custom (I believe because I am still rooted ?)
I don’t know if this is the right way ? I must power off before the OS starts to load ? or is it just a fluke now !!?

Not sure can solve or not. Try to install stock firmware back.

Actually my note 2 suddently can’t power on. Then I replaced new battery but hang at SGN2 logo. So I tried to do “volum down+home+power” then press volum up to download.(same as your step 11). On the other hand I download ‘odin3 v3.07′ and ‘N7100XXALJ3_N7100OLBALJ3_N7100DXALJ1_HOME.tar.md5′. I create “firmware folder” and copy .md5 inside as per your video. Then I connect note 2 and choose PDA and upload .tar.md5 then start. Actually I folllowed until step 19 of you. But odin3 Message showed that “”"”set up connection”"” and hang. After a while (success 0/ failed 1) then “removed”. Although I have not plug out my usb from my PC yet. Seems like can’t flash into ROM. and I do not know what to do and I just want to restore back to stock condition.
Please kindly help and I will be very appreciated.
Note: I bought export set and I do not have warranty from service center.

Odin showed added. But I think there got connection problem with Kies coz before that I tried to recover firmware with Kies but connection error.
Then now I uninstall Kies not to disturbe odin. Is it OK ! or totally death?

I mean mother board die. Coz a lot of forum I read through and no one can answer what happened after hang at set up connection in Odin message. I go back to the shop that I bought this phone, but they also can’t do. Checking for 3 hours and finally can’t answer what happened. Is it hardware! Coz connection problem. May be Odin can’t recognise my hardware. ? Right!

Same. I tried a lot of time. Still hang at SGN logo. Tried to upload at Odin, hang atsetupcomnnection message n removed. Never go to initialization line and so on.

As long as you can load Odin download mode and recovery, your Galaxy Note 2 is still okay.
