BlackVue DR650GW-2CH Firmware Update

My best dash cam BlackVue DR650GW-2CH supports Over the Cloud since last year. I did not upgrade to that version because there is no need to use that feature. Furthermore, the video recording bit rate is lower than legacy firmware. However, thing changed with the latest DR650GW series firmware. I upgraded mine and you should too. Read on to find out why…

Improvements

  • Video quality improvement (including bitrate up to 10Mbps for the front camera on Highest quality setting). Note: this is actually higher than the Highest quality setting on the Legacy firmware (8Mbps).
  • Video quality settings added (Normal/High/Highest).
  • Expanded hotspot settings: you can now register up to 3 hotspots for your BlackVue to connect to the Cloud.

This firmware works on BlackVue DR650GW-1CH and 2CH models including truck model. Everything is running perfectly with highest bitrate 10Mbps for front camera and 5Mbps for rear camera. Do take note that this firmware requires fast micro SD (BlackVue MLC card works fine). Else you will face random reboot, video recording not stable issues. Yup, my normal 64GB Kingston microSD card which support legacy firmware can’t work on the latest cloud firmware. It just can’t keep up the writing speed that latest firmware needs.
