I am still running stock firmware on Nexus 7 (with root access). No other modification yet. Not much application installed as well. But I do face several wakelocks and need to time to troubleshoot. Or I should try out custom ROM instead. Anyway, the biggest battery eater is Nexus 7 IPS screen. So keeping display backlight at minimum should help to improve Nexus 7 battery life a lot.
