Red Compaq box from Singapore

The notebook PC was shipped from Singapore. It took HP around 12 days to ship this notebook PC after order placed. So if you are interested in this notebook PC, you better get it soon because Citibank offer is going to end on 31 May 2008.

What does it contain? It comes with a CD, battery, power adapter and some guides. By the way, it is pre-installed with FreeDOS. No Windows driver CD included. However, you can download Windows Vista drivers at HP website. NOTE – Windows XP is NOT SUPPORTED officially by HP. Therefore, you will not find chipset, video, sound, network Windows XP drivers at HP website. He… He… Most of the drivers are missing then. πŸ˜› However, some of us managed to install Windows XP with all the functional drivers. We took from here and there. Check out all the comments for help now. I will come out a guide to install Windows XP drivers soon.

Package contents

In order to test the laptop quick and dirty, I tested it with Ubuntu. What is Ubuntu? Ubuntu is a community developed, linux-based operating system that is perfect for laptops, desktops and servers. It contains all the applications you need – a web browser, presentation, document and spreadsheet software, instant messaging and much more. This notebook PC is best for Ubuntu. Everything works fine in Ubuntu after boot from Ubuntu CD. Video, sound, network… All are working fine in this Linux OS. By the way, Ubuntu does not use a lot of hardware resources. πŸ˜€

Ubuntu in action!!!

I tried to install Windows Vista Home Premium then. I install 1GB RAM before I setup Windows Vista since it cannot run on 512MB machine. NOTE – don’t think that you can run Windows Vista on this notebook PC without adding addition RAM. So you better stick to Windows XP if you do not want to upgrade RAM. πŸ˜€
