First of all, I would like to say sorry if you had lost your precious Samsung Galaxy S4. Not to worry much, there is always way to recover it. Of course, if you have done the prerequisite ~ sign in your Galaxy S4 with Samsung Account. If you had signed in Samsung own applications like Samsung Apps, you are in luck now. Why? Basically, you registered Galaxy S4 as your device. You can locate it with Samsung Find My Mobile website (previously known as Samsung Dive). For those did not sign in Samsung account yet, it’s time for you to do so. You don’t know what might happen to your Galaxy S4 as well. It might be stolen or missing in action…

Rooted your Galaxy S4? Then stay with me on this guide, else feel free to skip this. Without root access, you won’t corrupt or delete EFS. So you are safe.
EFS folder is a place that store all Samsung Galaxy S4 important data like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth MAC address and IMEI (nv_data.bin). Therefore, don’t play with system level folders especially EFS folder if you don’t know what they are. For you info, your Galaxy S4 can’t make voice call if IMEI number is missing. Therefore, it is better to make a backup of Galaxy S4 EFS. Why? Install unstable or poorly cooked Galaxy S4 ROM might cause EFS partition to be corrupted or missing too.

Samsung Galaxy S4 stock recovery provides limited functions when compare to custom recovery like ClockworkMod Recovery – CWM or Team Win Recovery Project – TWRP. It is better than nothing. As for advanced users, you will need to install ClockworkMod Recovery on Galaxy S4 to get more juice out of it. CWM and TWRP give you the ability to backup & restore with Nandroid, install custom ROM, kernel, modification and other more… It is a must installed tool for Galaxy S4 if you like to try out custom ROM.

PhilZ Touch 5 Recovery is one of my favourite custom recoveries for Samsung Galaxy Series. Why? exFAT partition support on external SD card. Yes, that’s the main reason that I always have PhilZ Touch CWM installed. And now it is on my Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9500 (PhilZ Touch CWM supports GT-I9505 too). PhilZ Touch is a CWM Advanced Edition that loaded with extra features compare to official ClockworkMod Recovery. As the name applies, it supports touch interface in addition to hardware keys. And it has Aroma File Manager built-in. Besides, it also has TWRP backup and restore support. Check out all the features below…
