Maritime Museum Phase 1 was opened by Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, former Prime Minister of Malaysia on 13 June 1994. While Maritime Museum Phase 2 was opened by Y.B Datuk Poh Ah Tiam, Chairman of the State Committee for Tourism, Culture and the Environment on 23 May 1998. Phase 1 highlights Malacca’s importance as a regional and international business centre from the period of the Melaka Sultanate, right through the Portuguese, Dutch and British era. And phase 2 shows the majesty of the seas and the oceans, the inter dependence of the maritime world and Man, and the role of the seas and oceans in Man’s continuing progress.

Else you are not visiting Malacca at all. A Famosa was constructed by the Portuguese in 1511. And it suffered severe structural damage during the Dutch invasion.
