Yup. If you are a Malaysia heavy download user, you might notice this already. TM Net Streamyx connection speed is being throttled. They throttle connection speed on certain file types such as MKV, AVI, RMVB… So your download will be very very slow on these file types. However, they are good enough to set happy hour (full connection speed) during midnight (time vary).

Streamyx, can you beat me?
For more information, please visit Lowyat.NET. They have several solutions to solve this throttle issue.
Oh no… Slow Streamyx connection again? Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) wishes to announce that its consortium members have detected a cable fault on the Southeast Asia-Middle East-Western Europe 4 (SMW4) submarine cable network between Alexandria in Egypt and Palermo in Italy linking Malaysia to Europe and the United States (link). In this case, connection within Malaysia servers is still okay but no no when you try load oversea websites.
How to speed up Streamyx connection? That’s the question that I ask myself. All my blogs are hosted in US. And the performance is very bad now. Err…
Well, the first thing that I will do. Turn on the Streamyx proxy server on my Firefox browser (no proxy by default). This will speed up a lot because it will load the website from the proxy server. And only will load the website from its original server (let’s say located in US) if proxy server don’t have the cache.
Yes, I just turn on the Streamyx proxy server mode. Streamyx connection speed does improve some. Try it for yourself.

YouTube is not working so well with TM Net Streamyx SLOW connection (throttling). I tried SpeedBit Video Accelerator but failed. I also tried Easy YouTube Video Downloader but it does not support multiple connections. Finally, Internet Download Manager comes to rescue.

I am a heavy YouTube user lately. Watching a lot of my next mobile phone HTC HD2 review. Most of the reviews are in HD mode. So is this SpeedBit Video Accelerator going to help me reduce YouTube videos loading time? Let’s try it out.
Yeah… I just upgraded my TM Net Streamyx internet package from Streamyx 512Kbps to Streamyx 1.0Mbps. I submitted the upgrade application just before Malaysia Budget 2010 that will give RM500 tax relief on broadband subscription fee. Anyway, I feel that my Internet connection speed was slow and needed to be upgraded to catch up. Therefore, I did it.
So how to test internet connection speed? There is a free tool from TM Net itself ~ TM Speedometer. With it, you can test your Internet connection speed with local server at Brickfields (Kuala Lumpur), Kelana Jaya (Petaling Jaya) and Cyberjaya. However, the test only cover connection within Malaysia only (Most of the Malaysia web servers are located there)
