Most of the custom modifications for Android devices are installed through recovery like ClockworkMod Recovery (CWM) or Team Win Recovery Project Recovery (TWRP). Same apply to Samsung Galaxy S4. Therefore, here is the guide to install update zip with CWM. Yes, most of the mod files are in zip format (instead of tar which uses Odin software). For example, custom kernel, theme, boot animation, variety of mods and ROM are few of them. Oh, before I forget. DO remember to make a Galaxy S4 CWM Nandroid backup before install any custom stuffs. Or you might semi brick your Galaxy S4 and need to start over again with clean firmware. Therefore, a Nandroid backup will save your day (if anything bad happen)…
PhilZ Touch 5 Recovery is one of my favourite custom recoveries for Samsung Galaxy Series. Why? exFAT partition support on external SD card. Yes, that’s the main reason that I always have PhilZ Touch CWM installed. And now it is on my Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9500 (PhilZ Touch CWM supports GT-I9505 too). PhilZ Touch is a CWM Advanced Edition that loaded with extra features compare to official ClockworkMod Recovery. As the name applies, it supports touch interface in addition to hardware keys. And it has Aroma File Manager built-in. Besides, it also has TWRP backup and restore support. Check out all the features below…

There are 2 famous custom recoveries out there ~ ClockworkMod and Team Win Recovery Project (TWRP). You won’t be wrong by using either one of them on your Google Nexus 4. It is totally up to personal taste and usage. TWRP has a fully touch driven user interface (which better than CWM in my opinion). And the GUI is also fully XML driven and completely theme-able.

If CWM for Samsung Galaxy Note II is not your cup of tea, you can try out another popular recovery ~ TeamWin Recovery Project (TWRP). TWRP is a custom recovery built with ease of use and customization in mind. And the latest version 2.4 has goodies like support for exFAT formatted SD card and support for decrypting Samsung TouchWiz encrypted devices including internal and external storage…

How to load Google Nexus 7 recovery mode? I tried to boot into Nexus 7 stock recovery but failed. Only managed to load Nexus 7 Fastboot mode. Then it stuck at Google Logo when try to load recovery. Not a big deal because stock recovery can’t do much stuff when compare to ClockworkMod (CWM) Touch Recovery and TWRP Recovery from TeamWin Recovery Project. I managed to root Nexus and install CWM Touch Recovery with Google Nexus 7 ToolKit’s 1-click method. So how to load Nexus 7 recovery mode now?
