I don’t use XBMC much on my Android devices. MX Player and DicePlayer do a better job. However, latest beta version of XBMC 13.0 Gotham changes that. It supports both ARM and x86 hardware decoding. Therefore, Raspberry Pi and Android has huge speed improvement on video playback. And support stereoscopic 3D rendering now. Lot of improvements like touchscreen support, UPnP capabilities, Dramatic Audio Engine and settings…
Any XBMC Media Player fans here? XBMC 12 Frodo is here. XBMC is still the best video player for my budget Asus Eee PC 1215B netbook. It is perfect for AMD Fusion APU E450 CPU and Radeon HD 6320 GPU. And XBMC team supports Android platform officially in XBMC 12.0 – Frodo. Of course, there are other new features like HD audio support, h.264 10bit (aka Hi10P) video software decoding for anime in this release too.
Great news, XBMC lovers (including me). You can enjoy your favourite XBMC media player on Android phone and tablet from now on. So far, only software decode of audio and video are supported until universal hardware decode is ready. But it is still okay to play low bit rate video smoothly. However, do take note that current XBMC skins have been designed for use on bigger screen like PC, TV. So navigation on phone with 720p HD display like Samsung Galaxy S III requires ‘special’ skill. But no worry, with XBMC opened source code, we should get a better and stale version at Google Play Store soon…
MPCSTAR is of the video players that I like. Using it on my desktop PC now. It has lot of codecs supports so no worry of playing all type of video formats. However, I discovered that MPCSTAR is slowed on Asus Eee PC 1215B netbook with AMD Fusion APU E450 CPU and Radeon HD 6320 GPU. It does not optimize to use Radeon HD GPU. And AMD Fusion APU E450 CPU does not have enough power to play Full HD 1080p video. Thanks to XBMC. I am able to play all 1080p videos like MP4, MKV formats on my Asus Eee PC 1215B netbook smoothly now.
