Package Content & Design
Everything comes well-protected. There are USB Type C to A cable and Kingston XS1000 in the package. That’s all.

Excellent build quality with sturdy plastic body. The top and bottom parts are metal which act as heatsink. Compact in size and weight under 29g only. Easy to store and carry around indeed. Yup, perfect for on the go.

It is loaded with USB 3.2 Gen 2×1 interface. It is also backwards compatible. And will default to the maximum speed of your system then.

Software
Kingston XS1000 supports plug and play. No software is needed. But you can monitor and manage it through Kingston SSD Manager. Monitor drive health, status and disk usage. Update drive firmware and so on.

Performance Result
Kingston XS1000 External SSD performs very well as per specifications’ performance. It manages to reach up to 1091 MB/s for reading and 1034 MB/s for writing. That’s the result from sequence Q8T1 test in CrystalDiskMark 8.0.4 benchmark. In addition, it is loaded with high IOPS that’s great to use as operating system drive too. Yes, a portable OS for on-the-go.

ATTO Disk Benchmark 4.02 results are excellent too. By the way, your drive performance might be different from mine. Because it depends on the host hardware, software, usage, storage capacity and so on.

XS1000 is able to write 80GB large file at constant speed. Yes, a bigger cache buffer helps here no doubt. The metal plates help to cool down the drive when fully loaded.

Want to use it for Blackmagic cameras? Yes, Kingston XS1000 can do so. It records non-stop video even on the highest 4K recording setting in RAW on my Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K. Ultra-fast writing performance indeed. Of course, you can use it on other devices like PC, laptop and smartphones too. It’s an external USB drive after all.
