Samsung Galaxy S4 stock recovery provides limited functions when compare to custom recovery like ClockworkMod Recovery – CWM or Team Win Recovery Project – TWRP. It is better than nothing. As for advanced users, you will need to install ClockworkMod Recovery on Galaxy S4 to get more juice out of it. CWM and TWRP give you the ability to backup & restore with Nandroid, install custom ROM, kernel, modification and other more… It is a must installed tool for Galaxy S4 if you like to try out custom ROM.
How to load Galaxy S4 ClockworkMod Recovery Mode (CWM)?
- Power off Galaxy S4.
- Press and hold Volume Up + Home + Power buttons at the same time.
- Release all buttons when you see Galaxy S4 Logo.
- Finally, CWM Recovery will be loaded.

In Samsung s4 Recovery Mode, I select “Reboot”, appear message ERROR and the phone. I think there is problem with my phone
Sorry the phone reboot
What is the error message?
Odin said that it has been successful, but when I enter recovery,it’s still the system recovery with a no command picture of a droid in the middle of the screen. Please help?
Hmm… Did you root your Galaxy S4?
I did not root my phone. Do I need to root to use the CWM? I read from other web, I need not to root to use the CWM
I am not sure about that because I always root it before install CWM. Maybe stock CWM can work without root access. PhilZ version might need it. Anyway, no harm to root it to find out.
I’m using the latest firmware, which method from your page/blog is suitable to root my phone?
