Enhance 3D games graphics quality 4x MSAA on Redmi 1S?

Want to improve 3D games graphics quality on your Xiaomi Redmi1S? Yes, you can do so with Redmi 1S’s Qualcomm Adreno 305 GPU. It does indeed improve the virtual quality on 4.7 inch 1280 x 720px screen. However, there is performance hit by enable 4x MSAA (Multisample anti-aliasing) mode ~ reduce frame rate. Personally, I won’t recommend enabling it on fast pace games. But no harm to try it on casual 3D games. Or just for fun…

How to enhance 3D games graphics quality on Galaxy S4?

Samsung Galaxy S4 has 5″ Full HD Super AMOLED (1920 x 1080) display at 441 ppi. Playing 3D games with Galaxy S4 is enjoyable. Why? PowerVR SGX 544MP3 GPU is powerful enough to give smooth frame rate. Furthermore, you can enable 4x MSAA (Multisample anti-aliasing) on Galaxy S4 to improve 3D games graphics quality. But you need to have very good eyes because average users can’t see aliasing effect on 441 ppi. So what is the point of enable 4x MSAA on Galaxy S4? Bigger screen like TV. Yes, 3D games graphics quality will definitely improve when output through MHL adapter to bigger screen like TV or LCD monitor.

Download CyanogenMod 10 Android 4.2 Jelly Bean ROM for Samsung Galaxy S3

CyanogenMod ROM is my favourite Android ROM for HTC HD2. But I seldom use CM ROM since Samsung Galaxy S2 because CyanogenMod team does not have Samsung Exynos SoC source code. So you can’t enjoy all the features that can be found on Samsung own firmware. But what make me try CyanogenMod 10.1 Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean ROM for Samsung Galaxy S3? Force 4x MSAA feature (Enable 4x MSAA in OpenGL ES 2.0 apps) in Android 4.2 Jelly Bean is the one. There is no Samsung firmware based on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean yet. So install CyanogenMod 10.1 ROM on Samsung Galaxy S3 is one of the way to test 4x MSAA feature (Google Nexus 7 with Tegra 3 does not support MSAA). Besides, you can also try out other Android 4.2 Jelly Bean features too…

How to enhance 3D apps & games graphics quality on Nexus 4?

Playing 3D games on Google Nexus 4 4.7 1280 x 768 pixel resolution (320 ppi) WXGA IPS screen is good. But you can enhance it further by enable 4x MSAA (Multisample anti-aliasing). Yes, turning on MSAA will improve 3D applications and games graphics quality on Nexus 4. All the edges of polygons (the most obvious source of aliasing in 3D graphics) are antialiased. Therefore, you get better image quality just like below example. However, this 4x MASS feature is limited to OpenGL ES 2.0 Android applications and games only. And there might be minor performance hit on intensive 3D games.

How to enable 4x MSAA in OpenGL ES 2.0 Android apps & games?

I love to enable 4x MSAA in most of the 3D games that I play. Anti-Aliasing will make the games graphics look great. And the good news is that you can enable 4x MSAA in OpenGL ES 2.0 Android applications and games for free now. No Chainfire3D Pro driver is needed. However, here is the catch ~ you need to have at least Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and GPU hardware that support MSAA. NVIDIA Tegra 3 GPU does not support MSAA, so no luck on Google Nexus 7. But all Android devices which loaded with ARM Mali-400 MP GPU support it. Therefore, devices like Samsung Galaxy S2, Galaxy Note, Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 support MSAA.
