Package Content & Design
Kingston NV2 comes with a simple packaging as usual just like 1st generation. No user manual as it is very simple to use it. Just plug and play will do. By the way, all the information is printed on the packaging in case you need anything.

NV2 is loaded with solid build quality blue PCB board. It has M.2 2280 form factor which is ultra compact that suitable for all types of machines including Ultrabooks and thin, light notebooks. In addition, it almost does not add any weight to your system with just 7g only.

Yes, it has single-sided design. It is thinner than double-sided for sure. Great for small form factor devices indeed.

Performance Result
2TB Kingston NV2 PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD is powered by Gen 4×4 NVMe controller. Able to deliver read/write speeds of 3,500/2,800MB/s. Loaded with endurance (total bytes written) of 640TB. The great news for me, it is backward compatibility with Gen3 slots. Yes, my test system is still using PCIe 3.0. So this review will show you how NV2 performs on older devices. And it will perform faster when you upgraded to the latest Gen4 or Gen5 system.

Wow… I am impressed. 3217 MB/s sequential reading and 2668 MB/s on writing in CrystalDiskMark sequential Q8T1 test. Performance is limited by my system for sure. But it is still performing excellently for an affordable entry-level NVMe from Kingston. As usual, the results will vary according to hardware, software and overall system configuration. Do take note…

ATTO Disk Benchmark gives almost the same result. Nothing special here.

Yeah… 1.56GB/s constant writing speed. NV2 is loaded with a lot of cache buffer indeed. Fast transfer rate is what you will get. Period. Note – 80GB file is being used here.

45X faster than 7200RPM hard drive. You should not use spinning disks anymore especially as operating system drive. Based on PCMark 8 storage bandwidth test, NV2 has 503 MB/s storage bandwidth. 45 times faster than my 3TB HDD with 11.20MB/s storage bandwidth. Rest assured that Windows PC boots up, applications and games loading are much faster then.

Small but mighty! Have a closer look at Kingston NV2 on MeLE Quieter3C Mini PC. It is great on small form factor device, right? NV2 does not take up much space at all.

Don’t limit NV2 to laptop/PC only. You can use NV2 as external SSD too. Just install it into a compatible bridge box will do. Enjoy outstanding performance at a relatively affordable price. Much faster than SATA portable SSD. That’s for sure.

Advantages

  • Up to 3217 MB/s read & 2668 MB/s write (on Gen3 PCIe)
  • Shock & vibration-resistant
  • 3 years warranty
  • Large capacity
  • Excellent build quality
  • Value in price

Limitations

  • Writing speed dropped to 600 MB/s when over 50% capacity used (on Gen3 PCIe)
