Package Content & Design
Kingston FURY Renegade comes well-protected. Mine is heatsink edition as you can see. And comes in 2TB capacity. No user manual as it is very simple to install the SSD. Just plug and play will do. By the way, all the information is printed on the packaging in case you need anything.

FURY Renegade has outstanding build quality. It is loaded with black heatsink and PCB board. Comes with thick and rugged aluminium heatsink on the M.2 2280 form factor. It won’t fit Ultrabooks and thin, light notebooks. But can reduce a lot of heat during operation. That’s for sure. For compact casing installation, you need the low profile, graphene aluminum heat spreader edition.

The back is covered with heatsink as well. Therefore, rest assures the components at the back are getting the same treatment as the front. Did you see KC3000 wording there? Yup, FURY Renegade is the enhanced version of the rock-solid and performing KC3000.

Have a closer look at the heatsink design. A thick one as you can see. No worries, it is PS5 console compatible. And rest assured that it can fit into normal computer desktop casing.

Installation
Yes, FURY Renegade installation is as simple as ABC on PS5 game console. Just remove the PS5 cover. Follow by the expansion slot cover. Install the SSD there. Close everything back will do. Simple, right?

Kingston FURY Renegade Heatsink Edition is designed for PS5. It fits perfectly on PS5. No worries…

Which SSD can be used on PS5?
In short, any Gen4 M.2 NVMe SSD with 5500 MB/s or faster sequential read speed. Well, that’s not all. It requires effective heat dissipation. Yes, Sony mentioned it as one of the requirements. Therefore, you should get the heatsink edition for PS5 because Gen4 SSDs run hot. The heatsink will cool the drive and maintain peak performance. You don’t want any slowdown during gameplay, right? And you definitely don’t want to see your PS5 crash due to overheated SSD.

How much capacity do you need?
PS5 comes with around 667 GB internal storage. And it is not enough when you subscribe to PS Plus. There is a lot of games there. I used up all the internal storage within hours. That’s just a few games only. So how much capacity do you need? Personally, I would advise go for 2TB directly. 1TB is okay if you don’t play multiple games at the same time. With 2TB, you won’t need to think of upgrading SSD in the near future. In addition, it has the best price-to-storage ratio now. And has faster writing speed too. Remember, an excellent PS5 game needs a lot of storage space. Easily reach 100 GB per game.

Performance Result
My 2TB Kingston FURY Renegade hits 6485 MB/s read speed on the PS5 console on the first try. 1000 MB/s higher than the PS5 requirement at 5500 MB/s. All thanks to the excellent Phison E18 controller and solid 3D TLC NAND. For your formation, 2TB FURY Renegade supports up to 2.0PBW. And comes with 5-year warranty. That’s a lot of games that you can install. More than enough even for hardcore gamers that play non-stop.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade needs 86 GB of storage. It was installed on internal storage. Can you guess how long does it need to transfer from internal storage to SSD? Well, it took 70.42 seconds. I tested another 2 games with total size of 50 GB. And it took 41.70 seconds this round. In short, it takes less than 1 second to transfer 1 GB of data. Finally, transferring the whole internal storage to the external requires less than 8 minutes. That’s the real-world performance on PS5.

How about transferring back to internal storage? It is 4 to 5 times slower. Yes, PS5 internal storage has slower writing speed than FURY Renegade. Anyway, that won’t be an issue as you don’t do so frequently. What you should concern – in-game loading times (reading speed). In short, it is on par with internal storage. The game loading times are basically the same – fast. One of my favourite games – God of War Ragnarok is performing at its best on FURY Renegade. FYI, the game file size is 84 GB. A lot of stuff needs to be loaded from time to time during gameplay. And rest assured that you won’t face any slowness from one scene to another.

As you can see, my FURY Renegade is loaded with a lot of games. And it is almost full. Yet it is still performing at its best. Rock-solid thanks to large heatsink that cools it down. In short, you just need to focus on your games. That’s it.
