How to Install Custom Radio ROM on HTC HD2? (Video)

HTC HD2 has 576 MB physical RAM but was reduced by software to 512 MB only. And custom Windows Mobile ROM + radio 2.07 or above can unlock it to be 576 MB again. Certain custom Windows Mobile ROM need higher radio version than your phone. And NAND Android requires it too. So you need to install custom radio ROM (if you don’t have the correct radio version).

Prerequisites

  • HSPL3 ~ SPL-2.08.HSPL

In order to flash custom radio ROM, you need to have HSPL3 installed on your HTC HD2. Follow this guide ~ How to Install HSPL3 on HTC HD2? (Video) to install. By the way, I used Radio Leo 2.15.50.14 on my guide. You can use it or any other HTC HD2 Radio ROM version.

Step by Step Guide

  1. Power off your phone.
  2. Press volume down button (don’t let go) and power on your phone.
  3. It will load into bootloader.
  4. You should get ‘Red, Green, Blue and White’ screen with SPL-2.08.HSPL.
  5. Take off the battery.
  6. Power on your phone.
  7. I have R 2.06.51.07 at bottom of the screen with green HTC Logo.
  8. Connect USB cable from PC to phone after Windows Mobile loaded.
  9. Select ‘ActiveSync’ and click ‘Done’.
  10. Open Radio Leo 2.15.50.14.rar with 7-Zip.
  11. Copy CustomRUU.exe and RUU_signed.nbh to desktop.
  12. Execute CustomRUU.
  13. Click ‘Yes’ if User Access Control prompt up.
  14. Follow onscreen instructions to install.
  15. Bootloader will be loaded with USB status during starting of installation.
  16. Phone will be rebooted after installation finished.
  17. You should have R 2.15.50.14 at bottom of the screen with green HTC Logo.
  18. Disconnect USB cable from phone.
  19. That’s all.

    • Sorry, I am from Malaysia. Android Market in Malaysia does not have paid apps. So I don’t have idea. Shouldn’t Android Market works like Apple App Store, all your purchased apps are in your Google account?

  3. Hey Jayce, I have a wuit question. How can we get more device space on cooked roms. I was using energy rom and it always said I was running low and device space. I looked at it and it only had 59.0 MB of total space. Before I put a custom rom on my htc hd2 it hat about 689 MB of total storage on the device. Do you know of anyway to get more space on the enegry rom?

    i have done all these steps but i get stuck on the htc screen and it wont go any further

    after that it says i need to recover it due to communication issues so it tells me to take out the battery

    any advice ?

    i miss out one step to install HTC HD2 Radio Leo 2.15.50.14 , straight way installed the MGLDR, now the phone hang at HTC, how to solve it.

  8. The initial plan to update my radio to 2.15 since the 2.12 wasn’t working. So, I installed Hspl3, then Magldr, flashed a NAND android and everything was going smoothly until I realized: I STILL DIDN’T UPDATE MY RADIO! Is there any way I can still update to 2.15 while using android, without having to do a hard reset?

  12. i have spl 3.03 in my phone. but i wanted to downgrade to radio 2.12 bcause my 2.15 version has robotic sound. but, i couldnt install 2.12. so should i change my spl 3.03 to 2.08? if yes, how should i do so?

  14. I followed the instruction but only and got succesfully until HSPL3 got installed. When I try to boot the phone…it only shows HTC and white background ( No R: G: D:) — Just HTC. What should I do?

  15. Hi, thank you for the great guide. I have installed hspl3 and now trying to install the custom radio. I follow your steps but at the 3:27 of your video instead of showing this black screen with HTC on it, it appears on my pc error 266 unable to update (saying that it could not get a response from my pda)…any clue?

    • Anyway i finally installed it by doing this: as i said that error screen appear on my pc and i clicked exit and then without starting over i run again the custom ruu exe all the way and it worked… sorry for bothering you

  16. Hi! I want to install android on my HD2. It says I need Radio at least 2.08.
    On my tree colour display is:
    PB81100 HX-BC
    SPL-1.42.0000 XE
    MicroP (LED) 0x05
    MicroP (TOUCH) 0x30

    I have ROM 1.43.479.0
    Radio 2.04.50.20_3
    OS version 5.2.21864
    Manila 2.5.19202525.0

    So if I got it right, do I need to upgrade my radio and for that I need to install HardSPL?
    And just one more stupid question: HSPL, HardSPL, HSPL3…. what is the difference or is it the same?

  20. Hi, im just going to HSPL3, i have never used custom roms, radio etc..
    My radio v. is 2.10.50.26 im on t-mobile leo1024 i believe…

    Should i be upgrading to radio 2.15 to install android on NAND.
    Is it safe for me to upgrade to 2.15 radio regardless on HSPL3 and t=mobile..

  21. Jayce, after I flash the radio the phone reboots as you say, but not with the green screen. It boots with the TMobile pink stuff. Is that okay?

    i installed successfully radio version 2.15.50.xx but when i check the radio version in the settings
    it shows me 2.06.51.xx
    how can i upgrade to 2.15.50.xx.

    I have performed all steps as described but at the start of LEO70_ROM I get the following error message:
    An error has occurred
    Read below for more information

    Error Description: USB init failed
    Info. \ RSPL \ RSPL.cpp (1198)

    Error Description: enter boot loader missing
    Info. \ RSPL \ BootLoader.cpp (176)

    what have I done wrong?

  25. when i try to install the radio i keep geting a message about error 206 or somthing like that about my usb connection and it wont flash the radio how do i change this to get it to work

  28. Hi. i flashed hspl successfully, shows spl 2.08 hspl on bootloader. run win 7 with winmo dev centr. but whenever i try flashing radio 2.15, it says “update udility cannot find the requested file.pls check ur update utility.” wat do i do? can i flash magldr regardless?

    • Did you unzip the file correctly? Seem like system cannot find the file that needed. Try to download it again if still fail. Note – you need to have correct radio ROM like v2.15 in order to install MAGLDR.

    I have an HD2 phone that I purchase from someone in my town.
    I got a great deal on it and it is unlocked already.
    It was tmobile and I have AT&T.

    Anyway, I want to install windows phone 7 on this phone.
    It supposedly already had Windows and Andriod but if andriod was on the SD card then odds are its gone now because I took it out and put it in my Captivate.

    What I am trying to figure out is what I need to do to upgrade to Windows phone 7.

    I dont know where to get all the info on the phone to know what is in it exactly so maybe that is the place to start.

    Here is what I know…….

    PB81120 HX-B3
    SPL-2.10.0000 8G XE
    MicroP(LED) 0X 05
    MicroP(TOUCH) 0X50

    That is all I know about the phone.

    Can you please tell me what steps I need to take by installing what first second third so I dotn brick this phone????

    What is the path to take to have the latest from here?
    My point is to upgrade, See if I like Windows Phone 7 for my Business purposes and sell one of my phones depending on whether i like the captivate with Andriod or WP7 on HD2

        I actually was on that and it was saying I needed to do this something first. Which because I have one of the things in that list I was wondering if that means I have what I needed already OR do I still need to downgrade to something else?

        Also, If my phone is unlocked will putting another OS in it change that?
        I know nothing about this but I can follow simple instructions.

        • I am not sure about the unlocked stuff because my phone HTC HD2 is factory unlocked version.

          First of all, you need to have SPL-2.08.HSPL. SPL-2.10 cannot work on WP7. Then continue to follow that guide…

  31. i have installed MAGLDR113 and no i have my screen frozen in the HTC logo
    after a look in your website i found that i must have my radio 2.15.50.14 ( i havent flash my radio )
    since i cannot boot my device how can i make it work ? ( flash the radio , or boot with MAGLDR )

    I installed the Cyanogen rom on my Tmobile htc hd2.

    Everything works great, except that when I make a call, everything sounds “robotic”. People here me just fine, but everything on my side is…not good.

    Based on my research, it likely the radio.

    How do I flash a new radio to my phone? Do i need to go back to stock? then update the radio? or can it be done with the current cyanogen 6.1 rom?

    Current radio:2.10.50.26
    New radio: 2.10.50.26

    Your help is appreciated.

    I had some problems with the connection to my HTC HD2.
    Discovered it was because i didnt have the newest updates to mu device, if you get an errormessage in the lower right corner, sounding something like “connection could not be made to the device” then click on the message and activate automatic update for the devide. solved my problem 🙂

  38. Hey jayce. i have this HTC HD2 , but i seems having a weak reception signal. im from malaysia, im using the radio 2.12.50 .. is my phone have problem? or its just the matter of software installed. really need ur help pal..

    • Hmm… Not too sure. It can be caused by radio ROM, telco and OS that you are using. Try to upgrade to latest Windows Mobile ROM 3.14, it has radio 2.15.

    • just install HSPL 2 does it say above RUNNBUH? if it does just install HSPL2 and get SPL-1.42.000
      then install _HTC HD2_RUU_Leo_HTC_ARA_1.66.415.4_Radio_Signed_15.30.50.07U_2.06.51.07_Ship

Radio Leo 2.15.50.14 what it comes down to is this. i followed your blogg, “how to install android NAND on thc hd2,” watched the vids. resherched each. part i did not understand. then i downloaded each thing you posted that said DOWNLOAD “HERE” SO I HAVE EACH HERE you offered (without clockwork mod, could not get it to work.). since last post things have changed, some how i lost my sd card and got a new one. just by putting it in , hard resetting ad, almost all problems were fixed. i cant see the files inside the android folders still. but every once and awhile i get the robot voice, yet if i hang up and call back it gose away. my only true problem is i cannot download the photos i send via text. sending and reciveing text no problems. sync with pc and gmail are fine. i just fail every time i text a attachment of any kind to the build. any ideas?

      • so was i not using the latest? if not were can i go to get it? like i said before the first phone went off without a hitch the second wow. it dose everything and i am running the desire build. it just dose not download ANY ATTCHMENTS. seends and recieves text just cant send or recieve attchments at all. ” Fail Genaric network ” is the prompt i get. sorry for my spelling LOL.

            i want to upgrade to windows mobile 7 mango. and it says i need to have radio that supports 576MB well before i did it and useed 2.15.50.14 and it didnt appear in my SD&storage card 576MB even thought it appeard in my hardware that its 2.15.50.14 and some say u can use 2.08.50.08-2 or 2.08.50.08-8 i have a HTC HD2 T8585 (Leo),which for ur experiencce is better radio and for sure will give me 576MB? and i used HSPL 4 as i remember should i use now HSPL 3?and about my SPL its 1.42 HSPL i should make it SPL2.08 HSPL so i can update to windows mobile 7?
            or should i first upgrade to a windows 6.5 rom that supports SPL 2.08 ? btw when i used to have 3.14 with 2.15.50.40 radio i used to have bad Sim callers meanign when someone is calling me sometimes it appears to them that my sim card isnt avialbe right meaning something wrong with the device signal only when i upgraded to 3.14

          • so thats what i am using. I have corrected all problems. by putting in a new sd card, putting in the APN# and 3-4 hard resets. Phone works perfect now. the 2phones work so good infact, my oyher son wants me to use somthing he found called ANDROID INJECTOR, it allows apk to be injected into a at&t samsung captivate. I guess at&t dose not allow 3rd party apps on their 3g phones but now dose. So the endless nights of searching contenues. thanks for all your help. i even named my new dog Jayce.   46. i have windows phone 7 now on htc hd2 7.7004 and its working very well sometime i get the wifi problem i only restart my wifi and it works and i got Sd Card 8 GB and marketplace is working very well but when im trying to update to nodo..using zune it doenst update i get an error i saw my threads having the same error most people saying that when trying to update the zune sftware checks again about the phone system if its htc hd2 it wont let u update and it gives u error.did the hackers do something for thator not yet:S? cuz i really need the new update 7.5 mano 7720 version.

  50. i have andriod nightly installed and i don’t have active sync, it used to go with customRuu fine back then but now my pc can’t connect to it, it says usb in the Blue/green Hspl screen but it says in the software ‘not detected.
