How to Install Custom Radio v2.15 ROM on HTC HD2? (Video)

Both T-Mobile HD2 and HTC HD2 hava 576 MB physical RAM but HTC HD2 was reduced by software to 512 MB only. Radio v2.07 and above can unlock it to use 576 MB. Why do you need to install custom radio ROM that supports 576 MB? NAND Android and Windows Phone 7 need it. You need to have correct radio ROM in order to use NAND Android and Windows Phone 7. Just follow step by step video guide to install it.

Prerequisites

  • SPL-2.08.HSPL

In order to install custom radio ROM, you need to have HSPL installed on your HTC HD2. Follow this guide ~ How to Install HSPL4 on HTC HD2? to install. I used the latest radio ROM 2.15.50.14 in the video guide. You can use it or any other HTC HD2 Radio ROM version that support 576 MB.

Step by Step Guide

  1. Press volume down button (don’t let go) and power on your phone.
  2. It will load into ‘Red, Green, Blue and White’ screen bootloader.
  3. You can see your HTC HD2 SPL version there.
  4. Connect USB cable from PC to phone.
  5. Serial status will be turned into USB.
  6. At PC, right click on CustomRUU.exe and select ‘Run as administrator’.
  7. Click ‘Yes’ if User Access Control prompt up.
  8. Follow onscreen instructions to install.
  9. Phone will be rebooted after installation finished.
  10. That’s all.

You should able to see R 2.15.50.14 at bottom of the screen with green HTC Logo if you still have Windows Mobile 6.5 on your HTC HD2.

  1. I have no Ideal what is going on with my HD2. I am following the steps but when I get to the step of installing the rom onto the phone, it keep showing up as error 240 says something about a connection also I notice that your hd2 read 0x05/0x30 mines reads 0x05/0x50 but my SPL is
    -2.08 HSPL and my rom at the bottom reads 2.15.50.14. what am I doing wrong?

  2. At first I put on recovery 1.3 400 and tmobile thing came and froze. So I thought it was the wrong one. So went back retrace my steps then installed recovery 1.3 150. This time I go down to AD Recovery and it reads no boot sources and takes me bake to the maglgr screen. I watched the video and some other was I supossed to put something on my sd card? I thought didn’t have to with the maglgr 1.3 and recovery 1.3 150 or 400.

    I tried to follow your step on flashing rom this version, but I still could not find any kinda written typing of R 2.15.50.14 at bottom of the screen with green HTC Logo, and I think wm 6.5 is not installed too. any suggestion please?

          • I am having the exact same issue. This is what I am doing:

            1. Turning on the device with the volume button down (no USB cabel attached)
            2. The phone shows the screen Red/Green/Blue screen with the white box stating Serial. I plug in the USB cable and it changes to USB.

            In the red screen the following is shown:
            PB81100 HX-BC
            SPL-2.08.HSPL 8G XE
            0x05
            CotullaHSPL 0x40

            3. I run the CustomRUU as Administrator
            4. Tick the ‘I understand the caution indicated…….’ and click next
            5. I tick the box ‘I completed the steps indicated above’ (although I cant seem to connect my HD2 any longer with the Windows Mobile Device Center) and click next
            6. The next screen that pops up states the follwoing: ERROR [240] : FILE OPEN
            The Update Utility can not open the requested file. Please check your Update Utility.

            And thats where the show stops for me. If anyone can give me some guidance that would be highly appreciated.

    I would like to ask you, some days before I do task29 on my hd2, then I reinstall Magldr v.12 and i realise, that might be this lead this situation, “USB FLASHER mode” doesnt response, do you have any idea bout this mistake?? many thanks

  12. error 240..? Hi, im trying to install android 4.0. Im following the steps, step 1 is done. Step 2 wouldnt out said not valid winzip32 application. So i download winzip to open the file. FILE is there, followed your video and now got error 240 says check update utility…Help..

  14. I just reinstal Win6.5 on my Tmobile HTC HD 2. During the process, it install the spl-2.08 which is the radio. I have been trying to upgrade it to 2.15, but i always get “error 270” update error utility update. I have tried to update the utility through htc hd advance utility update, but still get the same message.

    What do you suggest to solve this error 270

      • Thanks! HSPL runs fine, with 2.08 result! But with “Update utility 2.15.50.14” it stops with 99%, with the following message: “ERROR [ERROR] : INVALID COMMAND

        This Update Utility cannot be used for your PDA Phone. Please check your Update Utility.”

        Think the problem is i have no Windows Mobile on my phone?

  18. When my cell is turned on it goes strait to the magloader screen …I don’t think I installed the zip file rite . Is there any way to go back to solve the problem ? Is there anyway or anything I can do to use this phone again?

  19. ERROR 262.

    Orginally my phone is a windows 7 version phone.I want to install the 7.5 mango windows into my htc hd 2.
    However, after follow your process and run the rom, it appear ”error 262”.And now my phone is totally not working.I can turn on my phone, but the screen cannot detect anything after run this rom.
    How can i upgrade it to windows 7.5?

  20. everything works awsome but im not able to get updates from zune for the febuary update. I have the shubert jan 12 build 2011 and need all updates to get the mango. Do i need to get another os?

  21. I successfully installed android, almost everything works, except the sound. I cannot play any videos like in Youtube, or play any music. Any suggestions on what went wrong or something I am missing?

      • I figured out the issue with sound: I needed to reboot the phone. After rebooting, everything is working very well, I also managed to have wifi calling to work. The marketplace works (for apps), camera, flashlight, GPS, music, internet, pretty complete phone.

  22. First off thank you for what you do…i know a lot of the questions on here are dumb, and repetitive, or just come from pure laziness….I’ve tried everything i know and this is pretty much my last hope….here goes…

    i have SPL-2.08.HSPL and Magdl 1.13 on my phone(because it was running gingerbread and now i’d like to upgrade to ics ), i tried installing the 2.15 radio but i get to 96% then phone vibrates 5times and it just stops and the Update utility on my PC says ERROR [262]: UPDATE ERROR, saying it’s communication errors and ask would i like to try and run again…I’ve done this over and over but keep getting the same thing

    if i go to the red green blue screen the green section says “upgrade Rom Code error, Please try again” and in the red section, upper right corner, it says “RUUNBH”

    as of right now my phone is stuck in this “limbo” and i can’t get to the Magdl screen anymore…only the tri-color screen…any help is much appreciated…thank you in advance.

  26. I just bought htc hd2 from someone. It already has android installed.
    How do I know which radio is installed on my phone if i don’t have winmo anymore?
    Also, how do I update the radio when I already have android? All the guides that I see are for updating the radio from winmo…

  27. Jayce need your help again. So i followed the above method to update the radio (the update finished successfully) but now my phone is stuck at the android splash screen. Is it because my ROM isn’t compatible with the radio? Not sure what rom it is since i bought it from someone else. Thanks again.

  28. i have no idea whats wrong with my phone, can anyone else. i bought this off gumtree and when i try to the custom thing to get MagDlr (or whatever its called) it freezes… and i have to turn my phone off and it wont boot again for another 10 mins for me to try. i have to leave out the battery. any help would be much appreicated.

    So heres my problem. when i download the radio it opens with adobe. since it opens with adobe its not a file i can just open like HSPL4. what did i do wrong?

    thanks for this very complex and thorough guide. I’ve been looking for such step by step walkthrough for a while.
    I have an european HTC HD2 and I’m trying to follow your steps, but I can’t succesfully install radio 2.15.
    I have installed 2.08.HSPL [following your guide since the very beginning], but when finishing installation of radio I get Error 290: INVALID COMMAND.
    Then when I try to turn the phone one I get ”upgrade rom code error please try again”

    Can you help me fix this?

  37. i have installed hpcl spl 2.08.0000 version. to install 2.15 radio version when i tried to run the file customRUU.exe as administor i get the error message

    “Leo CustomRUU has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience, if you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost.” then two click options are there “debug and close” when i click on close there is

    application error message “exception EFCreateError in module CustomRUU.exe at 0001239E. cannot create file F:\enterbootloader.exe. access is denied.”

    when i connect my usb cable it shows USB on my phone but my computer does not detect any usb connected.. i have active sync 4.5 and everything else is working fine..

    my proplem is i have hd2 international version i was using 2.2 froyo later i go with typhoon cyanogenmod 7 almost all uptades ı flashed again but lately phone start to freeze stuck when i scrolling on screen(app,contacs) i try to find most stable version some people suggest me hyperdroid i flash latest version shutdown everything like 3g display animations gps still it was freezing i dont know whats wrong my phone burn or i ave the wrong radio and spl whatever
    now i want to go stock rom or any rom tht i can use my phone full performance:D no matter winmo android linux just i neeed helpç i couldnt flash custom rom i downloaded the rom from htc website try to flash it from sd card but after like 8 percent on phone screen it stuck now i just see whıte htc screen rbooting contınusly sometimes on the down left side i see the radio version and some informations all my files on pc mixed up i need your help like can u show me clean installation step bye step (with the links i can download)dosnt matter which rom stock or android i want to use just phone like call somebody thank you in advance…..

    • Hi Marlon, do you have Windows Mobile Device Center installed on Windows Vista / Windows 7 or
      ActiveSync installed on Windows XP? It needs its USB drivers.

  46. Hi Jayce, for some reason, the .exe file just refuses to launch. All other .exe files on my computer are unaffected, just the CustomRUU.exe.
    Does it need any other programs to make it work? My phone goes into USB mode, and I have Windows Mobile Device center.
    Using vista 32bit.

  48. Installting Custom Radio v2.15 ROM on HTC HD2 I am getting Error 202 Connection please check the cable. I used the same cable for installating •SPL-2.08.HSPL. Also it working through active sync. I can browse through Active Sync.

  53. Hi there. First of all, thanks for this great work/support. I had w6.5 / Android 2.2 booting with Haret method. Then i look at your guide to have only android (4.x.x) and no more windows.

    Installed in this (bad) order :
    > HSPL 4 > SPL-2.08 (ok)
    > MagDlr v1.13 (ok)
    > cwm v1.3_1550M (did wipe, wipe cache etc..)
    > NexusHD2-Ice-CreamSandwich_Beta10 (ok)

    Phone booted
    booting android from Nand :
    yaffs2 part is /boot
    Load zimage blablabla gogogo blabla ok
    then it blocks on “HTC” waited 20min 🙁

    i forgot the custom radio damn ! so installed :
    > Custom Radio Leo 2.15.50.14
    But same HTC screen 🙁

    Here’s my config :
    PB81100 HX-BC
    SPL-2.08.HSPL 8G XE
    0x05 CotullaHSPL 0x40

    My question is : i’m not able to boot on CWM anymore. It’s on auto boot from Nand and then htc screen ..
    I tryed reinstall CWM (cause of course i still can boot in “Vol down/power” method. But USB doesn’t work anymore :s

  54. Before this, on boot i had MagDlr then i was able to load CWM.
    Now i’m not able to do anything in MagDlr, it’s on kind of “autoboot” mod :/
    So i can’t load it anymore.

      • after installation of 2.8 hspl. i had install radio version…but at 99% it gives invalid command error. Also i had tried lots of different radio vesion every time it stuck at some percent…please help to get back my mob in working cond.

    I have htc hd2 from t-mobile and I followed your steps and this is where I am at.
    I installed HSPL4 and during installing CustomRUU it said “updating the ROM image on your pda phone” and stuck at 96% and error comes out “ERROR [262] : UPDATE ERROR”
