CyanogenMod 7 is one of the best Android ROM for HTC HD2. And we have CyanogenMod 9 Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich ROM for HTC HD2 now too. The ROM is based on ICS AOSP via CyanogenMod sources. However, it is still an alpha release so stuffs might not work properly. Example, USB mass storage and camera are not working yet on Alpha3 – 16/12/2011 release. But rest assures that developers will improve CM9 ICS ROM for HTC HD2 performance and fix all the bugs in future releases.
HTC One X has a nice big 4.7″ 720p HD Super LCD2 IPS display. But HTC One X stock video player does not support much video format. It can’t play video format such as RM, RMVB, MOV, MKV (play without audio)… As usual, my quest to find a better video player replacement started since I got HTC One X. However, all the 3rd party video player suffers 3 dots Menu soft button issue on HTC One X. So I can’t enjoy movie on full screen mode (still have that annoying 3 dots).
CyanogenMod 9 is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. It is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android firmware. Yup, I revisit CyanogenMod custom ROM after signed petition to Samsung Mobile. CM7 ROM for Samsung Galaxy S II was not that good during my testing last year. How about the latest nightly CM9 Android 4.0.3 ICS ROM for Samsung Galaxy S2? Let’s find out while waiting for the official ICS firmware from Samsung…
Amazon Kindle Fire does not have much custom ROM as I expected (when compare to HTC HD2 and Samsung Galaxy S II). Maybe Android tablet is still not so popular compare to Android phone. And people prefer iPad as tablet. Anyway, here is another custom CyanogenMod 7 ROM cooked by XDA Developer, Skimp Killah. It is based on latest CM7 commits by WhistleStop and IngCr3at1on. And added several goodies like Kernel by IntersectRaven, ICS Keyboard & Theme, Google Apps and Galaxy Nexus boot animation…
After I installed official Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich Firmware for Samsung Galaxy S II, I am not so satisfied with default Samsung TW Launcher. It looks the same as Gingerbread. Kinda boring… So I give Trebuchet CM9 Launcher a try. It is official CM9 Launcher on CM9 ICS ROM. So it will give the look like official Android ICS AOSP ROM on Samsung Galaxy Nexus. But it can be used in Android 4.0 ICS Samsung Galaxy S2 too once you rooted it.
