ClockworkMod Recovery (CWM) for HTC HD2 is a must installed tool as most of the NAND Android ROMs are in CWM zip format. You need to use ClockworkMod Recovery to install these zip ROMs from SD card. Besides, ClockworkMod Recovery can make full system backup and restore using Nandroid. ClockworkMod Recovery v1.3 will be installed into NAND memory, therefore MAGLDR v1.13 is needed. Please follow step by step video guide to install it.
There are 3 partition layout sizes for ClockworkMod Recovery v1.3 ~ 150MB, 250MB and 400MB. Which partition layout size of ClockworkMod Recovery should I use? Depending on what type of ROM that you plan to use, you should choose the partition size based on the following.
- 150MB Partition – For bare ROM including CyanogenMod, AOSP, and MIUI
- 250MB Partition – For Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, Standard Sense ROM including Desire and EVO based ROM, can also be used for some squashed HD builds
- 400MB Partition – For Larger ROM including unsquashed Desire HD and Z ROM

Prerequisites
- DFT MAGLDR Bootloader v1.13
Follow this guide – How to Install MAGLDR v1.13 on HTC HD2? (Video) to install MAGLDR if you don’t have it yet.
Note
– For Windows XP users, follow this guide to fix USB init failed ~ Info: .\RSPL\RSPL.cpp (723) issue.
– ClockworkMod Recovery v1.3 only work on MAGLDR v1.13 and not older version.
Step by Step Guide
- Power on your phone and don’t let go power button.
- DFT MAGLDR Bootloader will be loaded.
- Use volume down button to go down to 5. USB Flasher.
- Then press call button to load USB Flasher mode.
- Connect USB cable from PC to phone.
- You should see Wait USB…USB.
- At PC, right click on DAF.exe and select ‘Run as administrator’.
- Click ‘Yes’ if User Access Control prompt up.
- Follow onscreen instructions to install.
- Phone will be rebooted after installation finished.
- DFT MAGLDR Bootloader will be loaded then.
- Disconnect USB cable from phone.
- Use volume down button to go down to 8. AD Recovery.
- Then press call button.
- ClockworkMod Recovery will be loaded then.
- That’s all.
Remember to check with ROM chef if you not sure which ClockworkMod Recovery partition size to use. Just repeat above steps if you need to change to other partition size.
Note – The bigger CWM partition layout you select, the lesser internal storage you will get.

Just want to make this clear. So im experiencing the low internal space for my HD2 which is in NAND. And to have more space in my internal space. The first thing i will need to do is to install ?ClockworkMod Recovery only?? Or i will need to install other stuff as well? Thanks for the contribute Jayce.
Install correct CWM partition layout and create EXT3 partition on SD card will help to solve low internal storage issue. Or course, you need Android ROM that support A2SD+ feature too.

Hey Jayce, I tried and follow all the following step by choosing 150MB partition and it appear on step 13. mine appear as “8. Service” instead of “8. AD recovery”. Any idea what might have cause this? Is is the poartition? Thanks a lot again!

Just install those components that no in your phone yet. You still can overwrite them if you want.

Sorry, I also don’t know how to check it. I usually re-flash the CWM partition size that I want.
Try using SystemPanelLite app – heard that it’s free and available in the Android Market =)
You can see the partition size from Menu->Dev Info-> Storage->Android System. (post taken from member jinharry in xda forums).

Yes, I saw the “Wait USB…” but the screen on my HD2 never shows any activity past that and the Clk program on my pc just gives me that error. I tried wiping (Task 29) the hd2 and trying again from scratch but always get the same error.

Hi Jayce. First of all i wanna thank you for your step by step guide. I sucessufully flashed hspl, radio, perform task 29, MAGLDR, but now my hd2 is stuck on MAGLDR menu. I was trying to install CWR Recovery 150M system 5M cache but something goes wrong (i download it from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=933951). I can’t complete the installation process. It says:

Just unzip with 7 Zip will do. No need a special way.
No problem to use bigger size cache CWM partition as long as system size is a match.

Hi Jayce. Thank you for your help. I finally install CWM recovery 1.3 150M (the one you have posted) and after rebooting system i copied the ROM zip file on my sdcard. I follow your video guide and the ROM has been installed successfully (install from sdcard complete). Then, i reboot system as you do. But after rebooting nothing happens. My device is stuck on MAGLDR menu at GO GO GO! for about 30 minutes. I think i’ve to pull out my battery again…
Btw, the little “monster” still doesn’t appear. Are you sure there’s no problem to use a bigger cache than the small one that typhoon cyanogenmod 7 ROM require? What to do now?
P.s I haven’t do any wipe before installing the rom ’cause this is my first one…

Yes, bigger cache is not an issue here. Else you can try the 5M cache see.
Try other Android ROM if Typhoon ROM is not working for you.
Hi Jayce. I still need your help… I didn’t have time to try again. But the real problem is I’ve no idea how to flash another recovery, then another ROM (the same in my case but with the proper recovery).
Which steps do I have to take?
Do I have to perform task29, then reflash MAGLDR and so on or there’s another way to change the recovery and the ROM I installed? (e.g via MAGLDR menu)

I did not use Task29 at all. Just reinstall CWM with the partition size you want. Then install Android ROM.

I got it!! I downloaded CWM Recovery 150 M from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044830 and I successfully installed it (even if not without problem). So I also reformatted my sdcard, recreated an EXT3 partitionand then copied the ROM.zip file with CWM Recovery (v. 3.0.2.5) mounts and storage –> format sd-ext, then, after the process is completed, go back to mounts and storage–> mount USB storage , connect the USB cable and open up SD card storage (removable disk). After that, before installing zip from sdcard I did the same wipe you do and…woilà! Even if the first boot freezed at the little white “monster”, I pulled out the battery and the second boot was perfect:)

Hi Jayce; I have attempted to make the change to android. I followed your steps and everything was going fine until the clockwork mode recovery. After clockwork was installed the phone shut down and booted up to the “boot menu.” When I shut it down, I restarted the phone to check the software version, they were all correct. Then I tried to install the last piece of software, MAGLDR. it would not install; it said, connect usb to flasher mode. Apparently, the Windows Mobile no longer connected to the phone. I tried and tried to connect the Windows Mobile but no success. Any suggestions?
MAGLDR comes before CWM. You can’t install CWM without MAGLDR. What had you installed on your phone?
Just to add, I have the HTC HD2 phone. Since I can not boot up to the regular windows 6.5 anymore (it always, always boot up to the MAGLDR v1.13 Boot Menu), is there a way to restore or boot up back to the old Windows 6.5? I am running scared–help.

Sup jayec??? I have been installed magldr 1.13 and was running a nand rom ( no sd card). Just added cwm and downloaded 2 roms to my sd card ( RCMix3D_Runny_v3.3.zip & MccM+MixTheme+V9++Runymede+Rhyme+Sense+3.5.zip ). With RCMix3D when i go to install it gets about half way through the error message saying “Installation Aborted”…. With MccM+Mix it almost goes stright to saying ” Installation Aborted” any ideas as to why it wont go thru???

Flash 250MB CWM partition. Then install ICS ROM. Reflash 150MB CWM partition when you want to go back CM7 ROM.
When you say reflash is to download Recovery_v1.3_250M and then follow the Step by Step Guide described above (Conect, execute DAF, …)
After that maybe I should I create EXT3 partition on SD card ? How much (size and cache)?

Look like CWM installation is not successful. Try to reinstall it again.

i installed android ICS on my hd2 and everything was going just fine but then when it started up its stuck on the green htc logo with black background. i think it is due to the fact that i installed CWM 150 mb partition and not the CWM 250mb partition. so i tried to replace the 150mb partion with the 250mb partition but it shows this-

I did all the steps from here, everything worked fine but I installed by mistake the 400 mb version of CWM and the phone stucks in the graphical window with waves.

Followed the instructions for installing Nand Ice Cream Sandwich on my HD2.
everything went perfect until i tried to select the zip file now for some reason my HD2 acts like it doesn’t recognize the battery i.e. it won’t even power up unless it is plugged into the charger or usb’d to my laptop/pc. it went as far as to try and run android but when it reset it just goes back to MAGLDR 1.13 try to go to AD Recovery to access clockwork 1.3 but the phone cycles power and goes back to MAGLDR. read a lot of the posts but it doesn’t seem like anyone else is having the same power problem

Impeccable work, disregard my last post. apparently when you get really excited you can bend one of the pins that contact the battery when you hastily put it back in to try your new android OS and said bent pin will keep aforementioned battery from making contact and giving a jackass like me the illusion of a more serious problem. after some quick investigating, found the bent pin, bent it back and 3 minutes later my hd2 was up and running android! even installed UD 3.3 on it to see if i’d like it better. again outstanding work, i did it so a monkey could make this happen with the easy to follow instructions you provided.

I tried installing ICS 4.0 beta 10 from the link, but after installing everything, it’s showing the colorful loading screen of Android and it’s looping that over and over again for over two hours now. Is this supposed to happen? I’m using 400MB Clockwork mod. I tried downloading the 250 MB partition but it seems the link is dead. It’s just redirecting to the website home page. The 150 MB and 400 MB partition links work, but the 250 MB one doesn’t. I’m not sure if I’m the only one with this problem but I tried with other computers as well, and I can’t download it. Even to make a custom firmware, I’ll need the 250 MB one, right?

Try to copy it again. If still cannot, use SD card reader to copy.
@Jean-Paul: Since you don’t have “Wait USB…USB”, suspected you don’t have Windows Mobile Device Center installed on Windows Vista / Windows 7 or ActiveSync installed on Windows XP. Please install it.
I kept getting an error after I opened up DAF mine was (736), I downloaded these files and places then in my DAF folder and it let me complete the download.

There is no specific video guide for NexusHD2 ICS. Study the reference guide. Then install it.
Jayce, I followed your steps on installing CWM correctly.
However, when I select: 8. Ad recovery, CWM won’t boot up.
It stays at the screen: 123456 go go go! and then nothing happens.

Try to reinstall CWM again see.
I tried to flash CWM several times but it still doesn’t want to boot up.
Is my phone sort of bricked? Should I go back to wm6.5 and start over because I can’t think of the reason it won’t boot up.
Not brick if you still can load tri colour bootloader.
You can start over from Windows Mobile again if you want.

No way to get 512 MB of internal disk space for user. Android OS eats some of them.

Hi NSaraiva, use the recommended CWM layout size by ROM chef. The smaller the better as it increases internal user storage.
Personally, I did not test A2SD+ on ICS ROM. So not sure it works or not. But just follow the instructions from ROM chef will do.

Which function in MAGLDR? No need to revert back to WinMo. You get ‘Wait USB..USB’ is okay already.

Can i install 150MB for ICS 4.0.3 instead of 200MB. The reason i have is when using 200MB, after installed ICS 4.0.3, the MEM left about 50MB, and normally the applicaton i am using is not included in the I.C.S. that i need to download further thus extra mem will be used, caused left behind a minimum mem and will cause the stopage of updating the downloaded application and downloading of new application. so, thinking to use 150MB then after installation of ICS 4.0.3, left behaind will be 250MB which will be at a better situation. Kindly advise 150MB workable for I.C.S. 4.0.3 ? or no choice has to use 200MB ? pls adv. thank you.
Can’t simply use any CWM layout size for ICS ROM. You need to follow the guideline from ROM chef.
Or you can install A2SD+ on this ROM. This should help to solve low internal disk space issue.

I followed the steps from note (up page where it says for xp users ) .I have win 7 and uncheck “allow usb ..” not from active sync but from windows mobile device center> conection settings > uncheck allow usb …..After That it works like a charm .Good luck folks

It was ICS 4.0.4 Nexus HD2.
It got back when we tried to reinstall CWM and changed the CWM layout size to 250MB.

Beta10 ROM needs 220MB CWM layout size.
ClockworkMod Recovery v1.3, install it with the size of 150MB

Bootloader: MAGLDR v1.13 or cLK v1.4.0.1/v1.5
Recovery: ClockworkMod Recovery 5.0.2.6
i have installed everything except ClockworkMod Recovery 5.0.2.6 , as from where to download this receovery. i am stuck totally.
and i have some dowbt also.
what will be the partetion size as for installing full rom need 285mb of free space.

When my mobile is windows os i don’t like this .Then i do change the os on android 2.3.6 then i fill some problem then i reinstall android 4.0.4 and i see 4.1.0 and i install that then 4.2.2 . After some month i do install 4.0.4 n nand memory and 4.1.2 in SD card every thing is OK . after some day i edit some image from my hd2 just this time my phone is power off atomically then i try to on this phone phone is on bat os is not there . and vibrate is 3 time .Then i try to reinstall but boot menu is not show.
