Maxis Wireless Broadband Review

Internet connection is a must for most of us nowadays. I cannot survive without Internet as I need to blog to make a living. There are 3 main broadband providers in Malaysia which are Celcome, Maxis and DiGi. I am so lucky to have a chance to test Maxis Wireless Broadband that I grab from my brother in law. He just subscribed to Maxis Wireless Broadband to cover his job need as a sales manager and got a free USB modem during the promotion.

How to install Asus wireless router firmware? (video)

Asus AiMesh is the latest goodies for high end Asus wireless router. AiMesh create a single, house-wide network name so there’s no need to constantly switch between networks as you roam around your home. Isn’t that great? Asus AC1900, AC2900 and AC3100 users can enjoy AiMesh now. AC5300 still need to wait for a while. Both of my RT-AC68U and RT-AC86U routers support AiMesh too. So here is the guide to install stock Asus wireless router firmware…

Test Internet connection speed

Yeah… I just upgraded my TM Net Streamyx internet package from Streamyx 512Kbps to Streamyx 1.0Mbps. I submitted the upgrade application just before Malaysia Budget 2010 that will give RM500 tax relief on broadband subscription fee. Anyway, I feel that my Internet connection speed was slow and needed to be upgraded to catch up. Therefore, I did it.

So how to test internet connection speed? There is a free tool from TM Net itself ~ TM Speedometer. With it, you can test your Internet connection speed with local server at Brickfields (Kuala Lumpur), Kelana Jaya (Petaling Jaya) and Cyberjaya. However, the test only cover connection within Malaysia only (Most of the Malaysia web servers are located there)

UniFi D-Link DIR-842 Wireless Router Review

Should you use free bundle wireless router? Yes and no. For example, TM UniFi D-Link DIR-842 router. It is an AC1200 Gigabit Router. Support 2×2 MU-MIMO streams. On UniFi 100Mbps package, it performs well for LAN connection but bad on wireless. Performance drops when going further away. 2.4 GHz is the only way to get better speed. But that is limited to maximum 50M…

Do you know what is fair usage policy?

Do you know what fair usage policy is? Fair usage policy is a new term to me. So what is fair usage policy anyway? It is a term used by TM Net Streamyx. Hehe… When you see TM Net or Streamyx, you can know that it is not a good stuff already. Yup. It is not a good stuff indeed for a Streamyx user like me who like to use P2P software to download stuffs. When I signed up for Streamyx unlimited plan, I should get unlimited data transfer, right? NO! With fair usage policy, user who uses P2P will have less connection speed. And the transfer rate will be low too.

I am using Streamyx 512kbps package.
